About The Project

The client was looking for data cleansing and data mining services to cleanse, verify, append and remove the duplicate records from the existing database. Most of them records were related to Finance, Banking and Mortgage related companies.

They contacted us by explaining that existing database has lack of consistency and information needs to be verified against each company along with filling out the missing information. The datasets are from across the globe majorly from the America, Europe, Australia, Asia etc.

In addition, all the entries were to be standardized to ensure uniformity across the business.

About the Project’s Guideline

The Scope of data cleaning work:-

• Checking, updating and verifying the existing raw data from internet.
• Classifying company industries Like Finance, Banking, Mortgage etc.
• Enriching company information like addresses, websites, phone numbers and email address.
• Removing the records that are outdated or which fall within the categories provided like Non-profit, Retail & ecommerce, Government Body etc.

The Scope of Data Standardize and De-Duplicate:-

• Expending abbreviations when required.
• Checking for proper capitalization in Company Name e.g Hcl = HCL, Exxonmobil = ExxonMobil
• Initials should have a proper format e.g. (John W. Mannion)
• Suffix the proper salutation e.g. Male (Mr.), Female (Ms.)
• Removing duplicate items from the database and merging the two identical records into single one.

About The Challenges We Faced

The big challenge we encountered during the deliverance of data was to carry out extensive online search to find, verify and update the correct details of each records in the provided database. The details were not in their respective columns that needed to be corrected.

We discussed the project requirement on the conference call with the client. The client provided us a the list of the companies in the CSV file format with little information of the companies and the final verified updated information was to be filled in same CSV format so that it can be imported in CRM directly.

• Removed or extracted those companies in separate worksheet which were no longer active.
• For those companies that were redirected to a different website, our data cleansing professionals marked those records in excel for the client’ review.
